Teaching
Dr. Schiavo is a Senior Lecturer at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences since 2013. She has 18+ years of teaching experience on public health and social sciences topics and has previously taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College, Long Island University, New York University, and The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). She has led curriculum development efforts at the course and department-wide levels and has significant experience with advising and supervising graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, her leadership experience in academic settings includes leading or participating in the accreditation process of a MPH program at three different universities, serving as program director of a community health program (graduate and undergraduate), and being part of faculty search committees.
Dr. Schiavo is also a frequent speaker in U.S. and international settings. She has also been teaching guest lectures at many universities in the U.S. and Europe as well as part of summer institutes for global health and international development professionals at the CUNY School of Public Health and New York University. Her capacity building and training experience include participants from 400+ organizations (a partial list of topics for which she developed and led/co-led workshops or training efforts is available on SECI's website).
